DTR (DIET TECHNICIAN REGISTERED)

Scottsdale Village Square, a Pacifica Senior Living Community located near Old Town Scottsdale is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic self-starter to join our team. We are seeking a Diet Technician.

A diet technician registered (DTR) has completed a two-year degree for diet technicians and passed the exam for registration. Per state regulations, DTRs may chart on and assess residents using RD’s Best Practice Guidelines and be under the supervision and review of the RD. Per state regulations, CDMs may, under the supervision and review of the RD, only collect nutritional data. Follow state specific regulations.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum one (1) year dietary management experience in a health care
setting when possible is preferred.
3. APTITUDE: Verbal and writing abilities necessary to communicate and work effectively with
various levels of staff, residents, family members and the public, and for required written
documentation or reports. Numerical ability necessary to make various computations in
clinical records.
4. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Stands and walks intermittently throughout the working day
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Daily Job Duties:
a. Manual or computer input of new admits, diet and room changes, supplement
additions, or deletions or changes and discharges.
b. Computer printout of tray cards for each meal or manual update of tray cards.
c. MDS and initiate Nutritional Risk Reviews per care plan list.
d. Lab information collected daily and sorted for intervention.
e. Attend Care Plan Conferences.
2. Weekly CDM/DTR Job Duties:
a. Food preference interviews and Nutritional Screening: enter preferences into computer
or add manually to tray cards using Dietary Interview/PreScreen (FORM 101) or other
designated form.
b. Monitor skin assessment flow sheets for change in pressure injuries. Obtain weekly skin
reports.

c. Weights monitored and collect data for RD on significant gain or loss per RD’s Best
Practice Guidelines; i.e. Weekly, 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, and gradual weight
variances
d. Menus copied for residents who request a copy.
e. Visit residents with food complaints.
f. Update nourishment list weekly and give copy to Nursing.
g. Update diet count for production staff.
h. Prepare for and participate in Care Plan and Nutrition at Risk Meeting for each unit.
i. Keep Nutrition Intervention Manual up to date for RD visit.
j. Start Initial, Annual, COC assessments.
k. DTRs may, using the RD’s clinical guidelines and Best Practice Guidelines, complete
assessments in states where allowed. The RD will review, add assessment note and sign.
3. Monthly job duties:
a. Per RD’s Best Practice Guidelines, start Nutrition Risk Review (FORM 109) or other
designated form on residents with tube feedings/TPN/ventilator. RD to complete.
b. Collect data on residents with pressure injuries, dialysis and nutritionally scored high-risk
residents per RD’s Best Practice Guidelines. Use FORM 109 or other designated form.
c. Collect data on significant weight variance on weekly, 1-month, 3-month, and 6-
month, gradual basis per RD’s Best Practice Guidelines. Use FORM 109 or other
designated form.
d. Prepare quality assurance clinical reports and attend quality assurance meeting.
e. Complete tray card audit against physician’s diet orders.
4. Quarterly Job Duties
a. Do satisfaction surveys and summarize.
5. Perform other department duties or special assignments as directed by the Director of
Food and Nutrition Services or RD.
6. The CDM and or DTR should provide the community with their current licenses and record
of continuing education.
7. A competency checklist should be completed by the RD on the CDM or DTR to assure
competency in order for them to do clinical documentation.
